1940s World War Scenes - World Wide Gum Co., Ltd. |
These cards are from a very rare series of 50 cards issued in Canada by the World Wide Gum Co, Ltd.
of Granby Quebec Canada. No Guide that I am aware of has this series listed, and I have never
found reference to an actual date of issue. Burdick does have a brief description of this series in
his "American Card Catalog" as series V361. Burdick states that these cards are printed in
blue with gummed backs. Burdick also lists these cards under "Recent Issues" by World Wide Gum.
NOTE: We have not yet been able to prove that the cards below are from the v-361 series. If anyone has further information on this series, we would be very much interested in hearing from you.I assume that the cards below were issued in the late 1930s or 1940s as they appear to be very similar to the Marine Gum cards, but include land based and aircraft scenes in addition to marine scenes. The card fronts feature a blue toned photographic image which is consistent with Burdick's description of the V-361 Series. Information about the scene written in both French and English printed on the front. The cards below have blank backs, but are no longer gummed. The gum may have been removed when these cards were "Floated" out of a scrapbook. The gummed backs were probably often used to glue these cards into albums which were later discarded helping to make these cards rare. These cards measure 2 3/4 inches by 2 1/8 inches. The card numbering below is arbitrary as I know of no source for card numbers. Click on an image below for a larger view of the card. |
