1939 Diamond Stars Premiums - Goudey Gum Co.
R-303A

These "In Store" Premiums were part of a series of 48 paper Premiums issued in 1939 with the title "Diamond Stars Gum" on the back. The Goudey Gum Company had bought the "Diamond Stars" trademark and other assets when National Chicle went bankrupt in 1937. These Premiums are smaller (4" x 6-3/16") than the R303-B premiums (4-3/4" x 7-5/16"), but the first 24 photos are identical to the photos from the R303-B premiums. These premiums are printed in a brown toned sepia. Some of these premiums are shown below. Click on thumbnail to view a larger image of both the front and back of the premium.

The how to instructions given on the back of the R303 premiums also apparently came from a National Chicle series (R344) which they put out in 1936. This is a How To series by Rabbit Maranville. The front of an example is shown on the near right. Click on the image to see the four pages of this example.

Two wrappers for Diamond Stars Gum are shown on the far right. These wrappers are from the Goudey Gum Company, and one is under the name of their World Wide Gum subsidiary. The World Wide Gumn wrapper shown is courtesy of Mark Macrae, and is from his collection. Mark Macrae, Al Crisafulli, and I all suspecct that wrappers of this gum could be redeemed for R303 premiums. However we do not have anything that tells how many wrappers were needed for a premium. Click on the wrapper for a larger view of the wrapper.
