The 1933 Goudey Big League series is considered by many to be the ultimate Baseball Card collection. This Series has four different Babe Ruth cards and two different Lou Gehrig cards, as well as many other Hall of Fame Players from the 1930s. As originally issued there were 239 cards in the series numbered 1 through 240 with number 106 missing. Although the Goudey Gum Company never admitted it the missing card was apparently designed to sell more gum to kids looking for number 106. Complaints were raised about the missing card and when the press got the story The Goudey Gum Company issued a statement that they would send a free copy of card 106 to those that were unable to find one in the gum packs, if they wrote to the company asking for one. Card 106 was then printed in 1934 and mailed out to those that requested it. Since relatively few people actually mailed a request, this is one of the rarest collectable baseball cards.
